Little boots that got a lot of wear!

NOTE THAT I RECEIVED –

Hi SHARON,
I’m wondering if you have used inner tube from truck tires as a sole material? Included is a super cute boot I bought in Mongolia for my then 2 year old son who wore them all the time winter and summer. Thinking of making a pattern when I get my skills up a bit. All the best and seasonal greetings from a fan.

greetings, yes, truck tire inner tubes are great for soling – i don’t sand the edges of soles I make with them any more as I have read that the dust might be toxic. I cut a layer as accurately as possible, then cement it to another piece of inner tube and cut that layer to match the first; I keep on until the sole is of the thickness that I want.

Fabulous little boot, i always wondered if boots like these were comfortable – they must be if he wore them so much! Use two layers of masking tape going in different directions over the boot to make a pattern –  to get a larger size, you can blow the pattern up as high as 110%  before it starts to get distorted. best wishes, sharon
